Some items sold in your store require private messages. You can send a different message to the supplier or customer when the product is sold. For example, you may want to say "Yes, you bought this product, now send us the security code when the product comes to you". Or if the product supplier / sender is a different company, you should send them the message that the product is sold. These messages work externally from standard shopify messages
